I was scared if people thought of me as weird but it was who I liked hanging out with which made me happy. I personally really enjoyed this book because when I was younger I remember my best friend was a boy and people would look at me weird when I played with him on the playground rather than the girls. In this book Peter challenged that which we are able to see the theme. When children are young they are taught that girls hang out with girls and boys hang out with boys but that is not the case. When Saturday came Amy showed up just in time for cake being the only girl at Peters birthday party.Ī theme in A Letter to Amy is gender differences. When he turned around he had realized Amy ran away crying and he thought she would not be coming to his birthday party. While he was going to deliver the letter the wind took it away causing him to bump into Amy, he quickly grabbed it before she could see it because he did not want to ruin the surprise. His mother told him to wait because of the storm but he was to eager to invite Amy.
He decides to write Amy a letter to come to his birthday party on Saturday at 2. What he wants to change up about his birthday party is that he wants to invite a girl but does not know how the other boys will feel about it. I really love this collage style for artwork.Ī Letter to Amy is about a little boy Peter who is having a birthday party on Saturday. There is a wonderful picture of Peter with his dog and their reflections on the wet pavement. Beautiful art again, a much brighter and more sharply delineated than Pet Show. But enough about that and more on A Letter to Amy. ) Seeing these books now actually makes me think about joining a book club as an adult because I suspect that it could have the same result. (Other factors included, frequent trips to the library and their willingness to read to me for hours. Anyway, I have always been a voracious reader and I think the fact that my parents signed me up for a book club was a huge factor. I had a bit of a penchant for really girly stuff like Angelina Ballerina.
But it also means that I was exposed to a number of authors that I probably wouldn't have picked out on my own. Now this means that they have ugly, if durable binding.
